AA Water is a sterile aqueous diluent containing 0.6% acetic acid (CAS 64-19-7; molecular formula C₂H₄O₂; molar mass 60.05 g/mol). Acetic acid is a weak organic acid; at this dilute concentration the solution is mildly acidic relative to neutral bacteriostatic water, which is why it is selected when a lyophilized research peptide shows limited solubility in neutral aqueous media.
The practical distinction versus bacteriostatic water is chemical role, not brand preference. Bacteriostatic water typically relies on 0.9% benzyl alcohol as a preservative so a multi-dose vial can support repeated aseptic withdrawals. AA Water’s acetic acid is present as a solvent and pH-adjusting component for reconstitution chemistry — it is not marketed here as a preservative system. Treat an opened AA Water vial as an unpreserved laboratory diluent: use aseptic technique, aliquot what you need, and discard unused solution rather than assuming a multi-week multi-use window.
How should AA Water be stored?
AA Water is supplied as a sterile liquid in a multi-dose glass vial.
Store sealed vials at room temperature (15–25 °C), away from direct light, and do not freeze.
Because the solution is unpreserved, use aseptic technique when withdrawing and discard unused solution rather than relying on a multi-use stability window. Discard if the liquid becomes cloudy, discolored, or shows visible particulates.
